When Everything Changes: A Reflection on Transitions, Motherhood & Giving Ourselves Space
The past few weeks have been a blur, quiet, uncertain, hopeful, and honestly, kind of beautiful.
You may have noticed that Greater Hartford Moms took a short pause. No weekend roundups, no blog posts or Instagram stories. And if you’re anything like me, when someone suddenly goes quiet, it can feel a little jarring. So I wanted to share why.
A few weeks ago, I was laid off from my full-time job. It was unexpected, emotional, and came with all the mental spiraling you might imagine, questions like “What now?” and “What does this mean for my family?” and even “Who am I without this role?”
But underneath all that panic was something else, a small voice saying, “You’ve wanted more space. Maybe this is your chance.”
So, for the first time in what feels like forever, I listened.
I paused.
I didn’t immediately rewrite my resume or send out 100 job applications. I didn’t fill every hour with hustle or panic-scroll LinkedIn. Instead, I looked at my son Oliver, who was about to transition to a new daycare, and I thought, This is time I won’t get back.
So we slowed down.
We took mid-morning park walks. We went out for ice cream before lunch. We played in the backyard without a to-do list running through my brain. I said yes to things I usually rush past because I’m “too busy.” I let my days be shaped by what felt good, not what felt productive.
And while all of that was happening, something else quietly unfolded.
I started building something new.
For years, I’ve dreamed about launching my own business, a consulting company rooted in everything I love, leadership development, coaching, facilitation, and helping people grow. With some time, space, and a nudge from the universe (in the form of that layoff), I began laying the foundation for what I hope will become a meaningful, sustainable company.
At the same time, I reflected on this community, Greater Hartford Moms, and how it fits into this new chapter.
And here’s what I came back to, this space matters. Not because of follower counts or page views or polished Instagram grids, but because of what it stands for.
It’s a space for real moms navigating real life. For women who are figuring it out in the school drop-off line, in between pumping sessions, during nap time, or after a long workday. It’s a space to feel seen, connected, and a little less alone.
So yes, I needed a break. But it wasn’t a step back. It was a reset.
And now, I’m returning to GHM with a renewed sense of purpose.
You’ll start seeing fresh content, summer family fun guides, local mom features, giveaways, events, and all the things came to GHM for. But I hope you’ll also see more of the real stuff too. The messy moments. The behind-the-scenes pivots. The stories that remind us we’re all just doing our best.
Because motherhood is one long string of transitions, some planned, some that come out of nowhere. And it’s in those in-between spaces that we often find clarity, strength, and unexpected joy.
If you’re in a season of transition, this is your reminder,
You don’t have to rush your way through it. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You’re allowed to slow down, reimagine, and rebuild.
I’m right there with you.
And if any part of this resonates, if you’ve taken a pause, hit a detour, or are walking through your own reset, I’d love to hear about it. Drop a comment below or send me a message. This community is here for all of us.
With love and so much gratitude,
